In March 2001 the then Cabinet Minister Mo Molam and Homeless Czar Louise Casey opened our Resource Centre in
Mo Mowlam at opening Whitechapel.  We offer a whole range of employment, volunteering and training opportunities (via other agencies) to homeless and ex-homeless people across the London region.  Operating a rolling peer support programme, our objective is to get people off the streets, out of hostels and supported housing to relieve boredom and isolation and help people rebuild their lives by keeping busy and doing something useful in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.resource centre picture
.
Very much aware that information technology widens the poverty gap, we offer our users access to the web and their own e-mail address which our volunteers will help set up. It does not affect benefits and it's free.
.
There are currently 11 computers available for use in the resource centre, all have Windows XP pro and Office (word, excel, access etc) installed and there are several other applications/software available.  For people doing projects and requiring to save their work, secure space can be made available either on the server or one of the computers.
.
We accept referrals from professional agencies or drop-in clients who see ourresource centre picture posters, word of mouth, etc - all are welcome.

We are open Monday to Friday from 9am-8pm with 20-30 minute tea and coffee breaks from the computer screens at 11am, 4pm and 6pm.

Between 1pm and 2pm the Resource Centre is closed for lunch.

As from 10th October 05, and after reviewing and taking into consideration the feedback from the questionnaires completed by the clients, the following procedures for usage of the Resource Room will be implemented for a trial period of three months or until we are successful in gaining funding to expand the Project.

Morning                0900 – 1300  Constructive work.

Early Afternoon      1400 – 1600  General Usage

Mid Afternoon        1615 – 1800  General Usage

Evening                 1815 – 2000  General Usage

People not in attendance at a previous session will be given preference at the start of succeeding sessions, i.e. people will have to log off their computers at the end of each session as they will only be able to attend the following session if a place is available – even then they will be asked to leave if a new client arrives.
