Turnaround E1 Contact Us Resource room Useful Contact About Us Users Comments Below are some comments from volunteers and users at the centre demonstrating the usefulness, and, in some ways uniqueness of the project. "Very good, helpful and organised, the volunteers are helpful in assisting everybody on most matters." "Although there are a few rules at the centre, they are consistent in allocating the time on the computers, phones and advice fairly and evenly. This encourages people to recommend it to other people at day centres etc." "Turnaround E1 has helped me with my studies and is handy when you just need to pass the time and get off the streets. Since it has gained in popularity I would hope that there would be room for expansion to cater for the increase in people using it." "An organisation which fires on all cylinders, not only does it provide help in searching for jobs and housing, but provides a forum where one can meet other people in similar circumstances." "The project is the place that has helped me set up an e-mail account which has helped me look for work (and women - ha ha)” "I think Turnaround E1 has provided the homeless people of London with a variety of courses and opportunities such as job searching, advice on housing and assistance in attaining computer literacy” "Turnaround E1 is a safe, friendly place away from the stress of street and hostel living:: a starting point, a beginning, a foundation to help build a better life." "Good things for the project are access to the internet, help with looking for jobs, housing etc. in a friendly atmosphere. Bad things are the abuse by a few and not too much room - but I suppose that comes down to funding" Short Profile of Julius Ferguson I was a homeless person living in a hostel and my key worker advised me to come and use the computers in 'Turnaround E1', the then ''Eastendgroundswell'' when I discussed my desire in education with him. I got registered and started using the computers in July 2002. However, I got enrolled on access to nursing course at Tower Hamlets College in September 2002. I have completed the access to nursing course successfully and got admission at st Bartholomew School of Nursing and Midwifery, 'City University' which started in September 2003. I continue to use the computers at 'Turnaround E1' as I haven't got a computer of my own and with the support of the staff, I was able to do my research and course work. Being on top of my studies, I had the opportunity to go to the United States of America to do an ''Elective Placement'' at Winchester Medical Center from 10 May 2005 to 8 June 2005. I am therefore writing to express my appreciation to the organizers, staff and colleagues at 'Turnaround E1' for their support and co-operation. "East End Turnaround is an organisation run by and for the homeless and ex-homeless. It provides IT facilities and companionship to those at the bottom of the social ladder; never forget that poverty is a lonely business. Without the help of Turnaround my first novel would probably never have seen the light of day. Turnaround E1 Contact Us Resource room Useful Contact About Us Users Comments |
